"Death Zone: Cleaning Mount Everest" is an insightful documentary film which follows 20 Sherpas - highly trained Nepalese climbers - as they embark upon an immense challenge of cleaning up Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on earth.
Climbers often venture into what's referred to as the Death Zone on mountains - an extremely treacherous terrain characterized by very low oxygen levels and harsh weather. Climbers must navigate this treacherous region with extreme caution due to dangerously low levels of oxygen available here and harsh weather conditions that make survival nearly impossible.
Mount Everest has become increasingly polluted, filled with debris and even the corpses of climbers who perished attempting to scale its summit. This pollution poses serious threats both to Nepalese environmentalism as well as those who view Everest as sacred ground.
Sherpa climbers take risks every day to clear away trash from Everest and recover fallen climbers who have disappeared, with the goal of returning the mountain back to its natural state and protecting millions who rely on rivers flowing off Everest for drinking water supplies.
While this documentary chronicles an important mission, some scenes may be disturbing or scary for younger audiences. This tale depicts real dangers associated with climbing Mount Everest as well as tragic cases in which individuals sometimes lose their lives while climbing to its summit.
