"Full Body Massage", directed by Nicolas Roeg and starring Mimi Rogers and Bryan Brown, tells the tale of Nina, an established but emotionally distant art dealer, whose regular massage appointments with Douglas (an attractive younger man she finds attractive), but when Douglas sends Fitch (an older masseuse whom Nina finds reluctant at first, but who later massages and talks with Nina), Nina opens up about herself and her struggles as they bond over time through massage sessions with him.
Fitch's approach to massage therapy is holistic, drawing inspiration from Eastern philosophies and techniques. He challenges Nina to consider both her physical and emotional well-being differently throughout each session; gradually developing into a deep friendship while exploring themes such as healing, self-discovery and human connection in this film.
The film has earned accolades for its performances, exploration of complex characters, and unconventional depiction of massage therapy sessions; yet some critics have objected to its slow pace and lack of resolution.
