"Pulp," from 1972, is an atmospheric crime neo-noir film inspired by pulp magazines and hardboiled detective novels of the mid-20th century. Mickey King plays an underemployed writer of sensational fiction who gets hired to ghostwrite the autobiography of an aged actor named Preston Gilbert who needs help publishing their autobiography.
Mickey becomes embroiled in danger when Gilbert dies under mysterious circumstances and, driven by curiosity and desire for escape from his dead-end life, decides to investigate it himself - leading him into an unexpected world full of femme fatales, gangsters, and concealed secrets.
The film is widely celebrated for its striking visuals, razor-sharp dialogue, and suspenseful plot - but also contains violence and mature themes which may not be appropriate for all audiences.
