Fifth Column was an all-female art collective from Toronto active during the early '80s that challenged norms through music (think punk rock), filmmaking and self-published magazines that defied conventional notions around art, gender and sexuality within punk scene music culture. Their work defied conventional assumptions around art, gender and sexuality which pervaded society at that time; their documentary offers interviews with band members as well as figures they inspired for an inside view into this important yet often underappreciated artistic force.
This documentary investigates their effect on queercore culture and DIY art movements more broadly, yet still notes their commitment to remain outside mainstream despite having had such an enormous influence. Unfortunately, they weren't given due recognition despite this.
