This comedy follows Derrick King, an Irish orphan raised in Los Angeles among Black families and strongly identified with Black culture. Unfortunately, on one chaotic day his experiences lead him down a series of unexpected paths; from getting kicked out by his mom to dealing with problems at work and love life issues to encounters with police officials.
This television film, set during the early 1990s hip-hop scene, follows three friends' efforts to enter music industry. Based off journalist Dan Charnas' book of same name (The Big Payback), which later inspired VH1 series of same name.
