The story is told by several women who lived in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960s. Aibileen Clarke and Minny Jackson are Black maids working for white prominent families. Eugenia Skeeter Phelan, a white young woman with aspires of becoming a writer.
Skeeter becomes upset by how white women treat their servants, and writes a book to share their experience. Aibileen, Minny and Aibileen are initially reluctant to take part in the story but eventually decide to do so.
This book is a best seller and sheds some light on Black maids' difficult lives in segregated South. This film examines race, friendship, class and courage.
