The Underdoggs follows Jaycen "Two Js" Jennings, an ex-NFL star in decline who finds himself living out a tough reality: broke, jobless and facing legal trouble. In order to fulfill his community service obligation as part of an ordered court settlement agreement imposed against him by court order he's forced to coach an industrious youth football team back home he knows all too well as part of their community service obligations.
At first, Jaycen only saw coaching as an escape from community service and perhaps impress his ex-partner running the team, who is running it herself. But as he worked with kids he started rediscovering his passion for football and teamwork again while building bonds with various backgrounds who all share similar challenges in life.
The film follows their journey as they learn how to work as a unit and overcome various challenges both on and off the field. They face off against another team with an influential donor and an intimidating coach - further emphasizing their underdog narrative.
Though primarily a lighthearted sports comedy, this film also explores themes of redemption, second chances, and community support. Furthermore, it highlights perseverance while facing fear head on while believing in oneself and others.
