Alex is an artist repelled by success whose personal relationships suffer because his girlfriend, Carmen's, career rise has left his love life disjointed. After being sent to a maximum security penitentiary with charges related to criminality and drug addiction pending trial for "A Midsummer Night's Dream", which will feature prisoners rather than actors performing Shakespearean lines with them onstage, Alex decides that playing out this iconic play may bring some comfort from behind bars.
Faced with their efforts to overcome his limitations, Alex realizes he is trapped within himself. Meanwhile, the inmates strive to get selected in the penitentiary theater festival; each scene offers them an exit hatch from which to escape incarceration.
